This site is now totally browser compatible. And by totally, I mean just for IE 6+, Firefox, and Safari. I was having a few issues with IE6 (of course) but now they are fixed. Just a few tips if this entry ever comes up in a search.
This site is built with WordPress 2.5, and it’s a pretty custom template. Eventually, I’d like to post a short tutorial about how I built this site. But in the meantime, feel free to email me with questions.
I’m using the following plugins: Dagon Design Form Mailer (the contact form), Google Analyticator (for site stats), and Kimili Flash Embed (for all the Flash stuff).
I was using Flickr Manager to access all my Flickr Images, but found that it was really slowing my site down. So I had to deactivate until I find a suitable replacement. I also had the Google tracking code placed in the footer instead of the header, which also supposedly speeds things up a bit.
Also if you are using Kimili Flash Embed, I’ve encountered a few issues with publishing and layout:
- Filenames can’t include special characters, including underscores( _ ) or else the file can’t be found
- You can’t use <center> tags to wrap your swf files. Firefox and Safari read it fine (of course), but IE (even 7) doesn’t like it. Instead wrap it in <div align=”center”></div> tags. And it’s best to edit in HTML mode, not Visual, because Word Press will convert your div tags to p tags.
That’s it for now. Stay tuned for a detailed entry about creating a custom Word Press template with Flash accents.
